Premium Dried Apricots are handpicked, sun-dried, pitted apricots from the Sham Valley of Ladakh. They have a distinct taste, texture and high nutritional value. They are unsulfured, and have no added sugar.
Apricots have been an integral part of the local cuisine and culture for centuries. Our apricots are typically small to medium in size, with a deep orange color. They are sweeter as compared to other varieties of apricots, with a slightly tangy finish. They are usually harvested in mid July to August, and are either consumed fresh, or are dried to be consumed throughout the year.
Apart from their taste, the apricots of Ladakh are known for their nutritional value. They are rich in fiber, vitamin A, potassium, and iron, and are known to have several health benefits. Consuming dried apricots can help improve digestion, boost the immune system, and prevent various chronic diseases.
PRODUCT BACKGROUND
Did you know that Ladakh is the highest producer of apricots in India?
As the most important fruit crop of Ladakh, apricots are harvested in summer; some of the produce is consumed fresh, and the rest, dried. Its production is mostly confined to the Sham Region of Ladakh, where the climate is milder. Historically, the premium quality dried apricots were one of the main trading commodities with neighboring countries. However, the bulk of the apricot produced is consumed locally and only a small quantity is sold outside the region in dried form.
Ladakh Orchards apricots are handpicked and sun-dried over a period of ~2 months, without the use of any machinery or artificial heat. We uphold this age-old tradition to maintain the natural nutrient composition of the apricots. This sweet delicacy is consumed amongst family members, served to friends and guests, and presented to loved ones all year round.
